urine carpet clean
urine carpet clean::For fresh urine: patience is the key.For carpet with pad under it, it is important to remove the urine from the carpet as well as the pad.
If the spot has been wet for more than 10 minutes or so the pad will have been affected too.
You will need fresh cool water, thick cotton towels and some sort of weight, 5 to 10 pounds.
Weights can be books, boards, steel workout plates, etc.
Make a poultice and use the principles of folded towel that is larger than the spot on top of the spot.
Place a flat board on top of the towel and place a weight on the board.
The towel should remain on the spot for at least 10 minutes.
Do not pick the towel up at any time during the process.
Pick up the first towel and get a clean one ready, fold it the same way as the first.
Place a clean folded towel on top of the water spot and put the weight back on top.
This time wait at least 30 minutes for the urine to work up into the towel.
Do not disturb the towel or the wicking action will be compromised.
Lastly repeat this whole process again using 1 part water to 1 part white vinegar and let the towel and weight sit overnight.
Pull up in the morning and let dry.
There should be no smell when the carpet is dry.
Launder the towels well.
Keep old clean towels around the house for this.
Go to plan two for dried in urine.
The second level of urine treatment is much more difficult to handle.
The typical scenario is where an area or areas have been repeatedly visited and there is usually a strong smell associated with the area.
At this point there are several problems because this is about deodorization, sanitation and health.
First there is a large volume of concentrated alkaline salts from the urine.
Second there is a strong odor that comes from bacteria feeding on the waste products contained in the urine.
Thirdly if the carpet in question is a typical home carpet, that is nylon tufted into a primary backing with a secondary backing latexed in place, then the treatment is somewhat more difficult.
If the rug is wool, silk, or rayon then dye instability is a real concern.
Professional cleaning by someone who really understands how to prevent and correct dye bleeding would be the best course of action.
Hire a professional for any large problem areas.
If you wish to attempt this yourself consider this.
The affected area should be small, no more than a foot in diameter.
Anything larger and you should hire a professional.
It can be expensive so weigh the cost of the service against replacement cost and know that the odor can be dealt with but the stains will be permanent.
Also there are several ways to go about doing this.
The execution is identical to the first section but the chemistry will be different.
Use an enzyme digester like biozyme.
Biozyme can be purchased on enzyme digesters work very well but they must be used strictly according to label directions and they take time.
Some of them may take up to a day or two.
Enzyme digesters are dormant friendly bacteria that when combined with water become awake and active.
The enzymes break the urine down into food the bacterial eat.
When the urine is gone the bacteria die and you have a clean carpet.
Now with enzyme digesters the environment that they are placed in is very important.
If a lot of other cleaners have been already been tried then there is a high degree of likelihood that those cleaners will kill the bacteria before they can do the work.
And lastly they take time.
If other cleaners have been used then they should be rinsed out before using an enzyme digester.
Pour cool distilled water on the area and remove it with a shop vac or use the towel method.
If the carpet is very wet place towels on top of the area with a weight and wait until the next day to pull them off.
Let the area dry before proceeding with what ever deodorization method you choose.
This is an alternate method.
Products that release oxygen are the most effective of all at odor removal.
Several repeat treatments might be needed.
Let dry completely between treatments.
They work by making hydrogen peroxide which has more available oxygen and can last longer than chlorine which can cause damage to carpets.
Use this only on synthetic carpets, not wool, silk, or rayon fibers.
Always test for color fastness by testing in a corner and let dry before using this or any other stain treatment process on a rug or carpet.
